Safety Turtle Pool Alarm System

The Safety Turtle wristband pool alarm system is the only pool alarm that works while your pool is in use. Keep your children safe from water hazards such as pools, ponds, or bathtubs. Locked to your child's wrist, the Safety Turtle alarm system offers a piece of mind as another layer of protection. When the wristband is submerged in water, it sends a signal to the base station, which sounds a high decibel alarm.

The Safety Turtle is great for pets too! Attach the Turtle Wristband to your pet's collar and you can have peace of mind, knowing that you will be alerted the instant that your dog or cat goes in the water. It's great for dogs that cannot see the pool's edge or have little swimming ability.

Turtle Wristbands are available in 5 attractive colors. Any number of Turtles of the same color can be used with one Base Station. If a close neighbor also uses Safety Turtle, use different colored wristbands to avoid frequency interference.

All Safety Turtle wireless systems require at least one Base Station. Safety Turtle sensors have no audible or visual outputs, so serve no useful function without a Base Station. The Base Station should be placed inside the house, within 100 feet (30 meters) of the pool or body of water.

Ordering Information:

• Base Station and Safety Turtle wristbands are packaged and sold separately.
• As a minimum, order a Base Station and one or more wristbands.
• If two or more wristbands are being purchased to work with one Base Station, all Turtles must be the same color.

Technical Notes

Immersion Alarm and Salt Water

Natural fresh water does not greatly impede the signal radiating from an immersed Turtle. No matter how fast a Turtle descends in the water, it will always alarm on the way down.

An increase in salt concentration increases water’s conductivity, making propagation of a radio wave more difficult. This has the effect of reducing “depth coverage”, the depth below which a Base Station cannot decipher the signal transmitted by an immersed Turtle.

Note: Salt does NOT affect the operation of the electronics or a Turtle’s operating life.

Child Use with Natural Fresh Water

The following applies to fresh water having NO sea water influence.

The Turtle may be attached anywhere a child cannot remove it, except under clothing that might prevent or delay it getting wet on entry in the water.

Use with Sea Water

The Turtle will not alarm reliably on entry in the water. To work reliably, the Turtle must thereafter break or nearly break the surface of the water.

Boating – Alarming is not 100 % reliable unless the subject is also wearing a life jacket.

Attach Turtle to rear shoulder strap [above the buoyancy line] using Velcro Adaptor, or to wrist using locking wristband.

Shoreline – While not 100% reliable in all cases, Safety Turtle is effective with a graduated beach. Even if the child is knocked down by a breaker, alarming will occur when the breaker recedes.

Attach Turtle to wrist only.

Use with Salt Chlorinated Pools

Do you have a salt chlorinated pool? If you aren’t sure, consult your pool contractor. If you do have a salt chlorinated pool, read the following:

The salt concentration of chloride salt pools and spas is typically 2,400 to 3,600 ppm, but this varies in practice. The concentration of bromide salt pools and spas is about half this. The salt concentration of non-salt chlorinated pools and spas, including pools using ozonators, varies from 50 parts per million [ppm] to several hundred ppm.

For succesful set up with a chloride salt pool, the Base Station may have to be less than 50 ft. [15 m.] from the pool. Above a 4000 ppm salt concentration, the Base Station may have to be pool side.

Safety Turtle Gate Alarm

The Safety Turtle wireless gate alarm enhances the security of a safety fence. A gate alarm reinforces the weakest link of a pool or property fence, the gate latch, which is subject to mechanical deterioration and occupant and visitor interaction.

Alarming from the Safety Turtle Gate Alarm occurs if a child succeeds in unlatching the gate, if the gate fails to re-latch after adult entry, or if a child wearing a Safety Turtle wristband goes in the water. Alarm will sound immediately on child entry but not adult entry, due to a bypass switch at top of unit.

Features:

Unique security and convenience features of the Safety Turtle wireless gate alarm include:

• Safety Turtle Gate Alarm will sound immediately on child entry, not seconds later like other alarms.
• Wireless feature means you decide where alarming occurs, within 250 ft. [75 m.] of gate. Other systems alarm only at the gate, where you may not hear it.
• Adult bypass switch provides 11 second entry time.

• LED on sensor illuminates during bypass period. It also confirms battery is functioning.
• Adult bypass switch means Safety Turtle gate sensor never has to be disarmed.
• If you would like to use this alarm with a Child Immersion Alarm, the color of the Gate Alarm must match the color of the wrist band being used

The Terrapin Wireless Gate Alarm may be used in conjunction with the Child, Adult or Pet Immersion Alarm, which provides continuous protection of the wearer. Turtle Wristbands and a Wireless Gate Alarm of the same color, can share the same Base Station.
